The damaging effects of the UV rays emitted by the sun as well by the tanning bed become much more severe during the hot summer season and many people suffer sunburn due to these destroying lights. As a result of long term sun and UV light exposure, the exposed areas of our skin turns red and sore. Frequent sunburns cause skin allergies, wrinkles and in most severe case skin cancer.
Once your skin is sunburned, it is vital to keep it away from butter and oil based creams, lotions, ointments and salves. These will clog the pores thus obstruct the way of heat and pain to come out of the skin. Use of chemically produced soaps should also be ceased else it will aggravate the skin.
Most of the treatments and remedies suggested by the dermatologists to cure burns are herbal. These herbs heal and pacify the burned skin.
One most efficient natural treatment against sunburns is Aloe Vera gel. Though the lotion and creams that contain Aloe Vera can also be used, but it is much better applying fresh Aloe Vera gel to the effected skin, as this will heal the skin faster.
Always take warm water shower when you are suffering sunburn. Adding one cup of apple cider vinegar or baking soda in the bath water is highly beneficial for burned skin as these ingredients soothe the irritated and inflamed skin.
Lavender, Chamomile, Rose hips, Buckthorn and Eucalyptus essential oils are also advantageous for the reddened and swollen skin. You can apply these directly to the effected areas of the skin or can pour them in bath water.
Moreover, some vegetables such as tomato, potato, cucumber etc. are also helpful in giving a soothing relief to your skin when used in raw form. Just cut them into slices and apply to the burns. They will ease the discomfort and reduce the inflammation as well.
