With the advancing age, our skin needs more care and attention. Environmental stressors such as sun, wind, pollution etc. can cause severe damage to the skin which results in premature ageing and other skin conditions. A basic skincare regimen is very helpful in keeping the skin fresh, hydrated and young. It has four steps; cleansing, exfoliating, toning, moisturizing.
Basic Skincare Routine
Cleanse your face twice a day, once when you get-up and once before going to bed, with a mild cleanser. Cleansing is necessary to wipe off all the dirt and other impurities accumulated on the skin during the day. Removing makeup before sleeping is also necessary to prevent pore clogging. After washing the face, pat dry it with a soft, hygiene towel. Don’t rub the skin vigorously while drying.
Exfoliation is necessary for the removal of dead skin. It enhances the absorbing ability of the skin so it sucks in all the nutrients you apply to it. Those with normal or dry skin should exfoliate their skin at least once in seven day; while oil and combination skin needs to be exfoliated two times a week.
Use a quality and best suited exfoliating agent for this purpose. If your skin is sensitive or ultra-sensitive it is wiser to use any product recommended by your physician.
Skin toning closes the pores that have opened up during cleansing and exfoliation and replenishes the lost moisture to the skin.
Skin miniaturization is the last step of a basic skin care routine. Application of good moisturizing product hydrates the skin and makes it look plump. Remember, skin ageing is a contributing factor to the premature aging, so, application of moisturizer also helps preventing premature aging. Always use a moisturizing cream or lotion that is suitable for your skin type and texture.
5. Apply Sun Protection
The UV lights emitted by the sun are very dangerous for our skin. They can cause premature aging, sunburn and in severe case even skin cancer. Therefore, it is very important to protect your skin from these harmful rays. Whenever you step outdoors, make sure to wear a sunscreen with SPF 15 or more. It will protect your skin from harmful rays.
